Drone surveys across Plymouth

The city, the waterfront and the towns around it.

Plymouth’s centre was rebuilt after the war, so it has many post-war civic, retail and office buildings with large flat roofs. Around it are the historic Barbican, Victorian terraces in Stoke, Mutley and Mannamead, and the dockyard buildings of Devonport.

Wind and rain off Plymouth Sound wear slate roofs, flashings and gutters quickly. We work for housing associations, the council, the university, landlords, surveyors and commercial owners across the city and out to Plympton, Plymstock and Saltash.

Waterfront or exposed site? We capture roofs, chimneys and high-level details in one visit, so you can see weather damage without anyone working at height.

Flying in Plymouth: what we plan around

These are the checks we make for every Plymouth address before we quote.

HMNB Devonport

The naval base has a Flight Restriction Zone reaching from St Budeaux in the north towards the Tamar. Sites nearby need permission, which we arrange.

Coastal weather

Strong winds off Plymouth Sound can stop a flight. We watch the forecast closely and move the date if we need to.

The university and city centre

Students, shoppers and visitors make the centre and the Hoe busy. We plan take-off spots and timings to keep clear of the public.

Rail lines

The main line runs through Plymouth station and over the Tamar into Cornwall. Network Rail has its own rules for drones near its property, on top of CAA rules.

Restricted doesn’t mean impossible

Restricted zones need more planning and the right permissions. They don’t stop a survey going ahead. Our pilots and office team work together to get approval for even the trickiest Plymouth sites.

  • Airspace checked for every address before we quote
  • Permissions requested on your behalf
  • Risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) for every job
  • Weather planned in, including thermal survey conditions

__ How it works

  1. 1Send us the address

Tell us where the site is and what you need, using the quote form or by phone.

  2. 2We assess it remotely

Free desk-based check of airspace, access and the best capture method. Fixed quote usually the same working day.

  3. 3We get the permissions

Air traffic control, landowner and site permissions arranged, plus RAMS for your site team.

  4. 4We fly and deliver

Survey carried out on the agreed date. Images in your secure portal within 48 hours, reports to follow.

Watch the inspection live

We can live-stream the flight so you and your team can see the inspection as it happens, talk to the pilot and ask for a closer look at specific areas, without travelling to site.

Mapping and surveyor support

As well as imagery and reports, we produce maps, 3D models, point clouds and internal and external scans, so surveyors can measure and report on Plymouth assets with fewer site visits.

__ FAQs

Plymouth drone survey FAQs

Can’t find your answer? Call us on 0345 017 5592 or see all FAQs.

Do you cover the area around Plymouth?

Yes. As well as the city, we survey Plympton, Plymstock, Ivybridge, Saltash and towns in south Devon and east Cornwall. Send us the address and we’ll confirm.

Is my site near Devonport naval base?

Sites close to the base need permission before we can fly. We check every address before we quote, so you’ll know about any restrictions up front.

Can you fly in coastal winds?

Our drones fly safely in moderate wind, but strong gusts off the sea can stop a flight. We watch the forecast and move the date if we need to, at no extra cost.

How quickly can you get to a site in Plymouth?

Plymouth is about 280 miles from our Liverpool head office, so we plan visits in advance and often group them together. We’ll give you a date when we send your quote.

How much does a drone roof survey in Plymouth cost?

Our drone roof inspections start from £250 + VAT for domestic properties and £350 + VAT for commercial properties, the same as anywhere else we cover. Larger sites and portfolios are quoted individually. See our drone survey prices.

Do I need to be on site for the survey?

Not usually. For most surveys we only need permission to access the area we fly from. If you’d like to see the inspection, we can live-stream it so you can watch remotely and direct the pilot.
