Drone Bridge Inspections
Bridges over rivers, railways and roads are hard to reach with traditional access. Our CAA approved pilots capture detailed close-up and overview imagery of every part of the structure, including soffits, bearings, parapets and abutments.
Depending on the deliverables, we can often inspect without scaffolding, cherry pickers or road closures. For more detailed surveys, a limited closure may be needed for accuracy and safety.
Alongside imagery, we produce 3D models, point clouds and topographical data using photogrammetry and LiDAR, delivered through our online portals.

What Your Bridge Inspection Can Include
Choose imagery only, or add 3D models, point clouds and topographical data from the same visit.
| Deliverable | What it is | Included |
|---|---|---|
| Close-up imagery | 4K imagery of every face, including the underside. | Standard |
| Overview imagery and video | The whole structure and its setting. | Standard |
| Online portal | All data in one place, with white-label options. | Standard |
| 3D model | An accurate, measurable 3D model of the bridge. | Optional |
| Point cloud | LiDAR or photogrammetry point cloud data. | Optional |
| Topographical survey | Levels and features around the structure. | Optional |
| Digital twin | A dated 3D record to compare against future surveys. | Optional |
For detailed surveys over live roads or rail, a limited closure or possession may be needed. We’ll advise when we quote.

Why Clients Choose Drone Bridge Inspections
Drone bridge inspections give engineers the detail they need with far less access. Clients benefit from:
Knowing the condition of your whole portfolio lets you mitigate risk, prioritise spending and act on real evidence rather than assumptions.
__ Digital twins
A dated 3D record of the bridge
A digital twin is an accurate 3D model of the bridge built from drone data. Engineers can inspect it remotely, take measurements and compare it with future surveys.
Repeated surveys show how the structure changes over time, helping you plan maintenance and target physical inspections where they are needed most.
Every face of the structure, recorded.

__ Why drones
Why use drones for bridge inspections?
Access equipment over water, rail or roads is expensive and often needs closures. A drone reaches every angle of the structure safely, with far less disruption.
- No one at height. Every face captured by drone.
- Less disruption. Fewer closures and access bookings.
- Detailed. Close-up imagery of hard-to-reach elements.
- Measurable. 3D models and point clouds for engineers.
- Future-proof. A dated record to compare with later surveys.
Every face of the bridge captured close up, including the underside.

For asset owners with many structures, we can inspect each bridge the same way and deliver results through one portal.
__ Why choose us
Why choose Drone Site Surveys?
Drone Site Surveys specialises in professional survey and inspection data capture rather than general aerial photography.
Our pilots work specifically across commercial and domestic properties, as well as building, construction and land surveying environments. With experience in roof and façade inspections, they understand how to capture clear, relevant imagery that supports practical condition assessment, defect identification and informed decision-making.
Clients choose Drone Site Surveys for our specialist experience, professional standards and independent approach:
__ How it works
Our bridge inspection process
From first enquiry to secure delivery, every survey follows the same six steps, so you always know what happens next and when.
Tell us about the property
Tell us about the structure, what it crosses and the outputs you need. We’ll plan the flights and any coordination with the asset owner.
Planning and quote
We carry out a desktop assessment of the property and the surrounding airspace, check the survey against current UK drone regulations, and prepare your quote. You receive it by email with no obligation, along with the airspace map for your site and an example delivery so you can see exactly what you’ll be getting.
Booking your date
Once you’re happy with the quote we add your job to the schedule and start monitoring the Met Office forecast. In the meantime we prepare the pre-flight paperwork, including our risk assessment and method statement (RAMS), which we can send over for your records. As soon as we have a clear weather window and pilot availability, we confirm your attendance date. You don’t normally need to be on site.
The survey
Our CAA approved pilots capture overview and close-up imagery, plus mapping flights for 3D models and point clouds where required.
Processing
Imagery, video, 3D models and survey data are processed and delivered through our online portal, with white-label options.
Delivery
We email you a link to our secure online portal, where your imagery, reports and any other agreed outputs are ready to view, download and share with your team or contractors. Alongside the deliverables you’ll find a folder containing the pre-flight paperwork, a copy of the drone airspace map for your site and any other relevant documents, so everything from the survey is in one place.

Frequently Asked
Questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about bridge inspections. If yours is not covered here, give us a call.
Do you need to close the road or railway?
Often not. Depending on the deliverables, we can usually inspect without closures. Detailed surveys over live routes may need a limited closure, which we’ll advise on.
Can drones inspect the underside of a bridge?
Yes. We capture soffits, bearings and abutments as well as the deck, parapets and elevations.
What data do you deliver?
High-resolution imagery, video, 3D models, point clouds and topographical data, through our online portal.
Do you use LiDAR?
Yes. We use LiDAR or photogrammetry depending on the structure, accuracy needed and budget.
What is a bridge digital twin?
An accurate 3D model of the bridge built from drone data, which engineers can inspect remotely and compare against future surveys.
Can the portal carry our branding?
Yes. Our delivery portals can be fully white-labelled.
