How Construction Photography Helps
Aerial photography is useful at every stage of a project. Here are some of the ways our clients use it:
The same visit can produce photography, video and survey data, so you get more from every flight while keeping people off ladders and scaffolding.
Survey-grade data
Accurate site measurements
Photogrammetry turns our aerial imagery into measurable orthomosaics, digital terrain models and 3D models, with millions of data points rather than the hundreds from a traditional survey.
Using ground control points and RTK-enabled drones, we can tie the data to real-world coordinates, with ground sampling distances of less than 1cm.
Photography and measurement from the same flight.

Why drones
Why use a drone for construction photography?
Cranes, cherry pickers and scaffolding aren’t built for photography. A drone captures the whole site from any angle in minutes, without disrupting work.
- Safer sites. No one working at height to get the shot.
- Every angle. Views of the whole site that aren’t possible from the ground.
- Minimal disruption. Flights planned around your programme and site rules.
- More than photos. Measurements, volumes and 3D models from the same visit.
- BIM-ready. Survey data can be integrated into BIM and other platforms.
The whole site recorded from the air, with no one working at height.

Why choose us
Why choose Drone Site Surveys?
Construction site photography by drone provides detailed, high-resolution aerial imagery that captures your project from perspectives simply not possible from the ground. From documenting site conditions and showcasing project milestones to client presentations, marketing and photographic evidence, our experienced pilots deliver professional imagery throughout every stage of construction.
We go beyond standard aerial photography. Our pilots understand the requirements of live construction environments, capturing site overviews, structural details, construction activities and completed works with clarity and consistency. We can also provide ground-level photography to create a more comprehensive visual record of your project.
With Constructionline Gold and SSIP accreditations, our experienced teams are fully equipped to operate safely and efficiently on live construction sites, delivering professional photography with minimal disruption to ongoing works.
Clients choose Drone Site Surveys for our specialist experience, professional standards and independent approach:
We specialise in professional construction photography and survey data capture rather than construction or remedial works. This independence allows us to focus entirely on delivering accurate, impartial visual records of your project, documenting site conditions, construction progress and completed works. Our imagery provides a reliable record for project managers, contractors and stakeholders, supporting transparent reporting, informed decision-making and clear communication throughout the construction process.
How it works
Our construction photography process
From first enquiry to secure delivery, every survey follows the same six steps, so you always know what happens next and when.
Tell us about the site
Email us the site address with postcode, the stage of the project and what you need, whether that’s a single visit or regular captures. We’ll come back with the options available.
Planning and quote
We carry out a desktop assessment of the property and the surrounding airspace, check the survey against current UK drone regulations, and prepare your quote. You receive it by email with no obligation, along with the airspace map for your site and an example delivery so you can see exactly what you’ll be getting.
Booking your date
Once you’re happy with the quote we add your job to the schedule and start monitoring the Met Office forecast. In the meantime we prepare the pre-flight paperwork, including our risk assessment and method statement (RAMS), which we can send over for your records. As soon as we have a clear weather window and pilot availability, we confirm your attendance date. You don’t normally need to be on site.
The survey
Our CAA approved pilot captures the site in UHD 4K stills and video, following your site rules and induction, with mapping capture where specified.
Processing
Every image is checked and organised into colour-coded folders. Any thermal analysis or reporting you’ve asked for is completed at this stage.
Delivery
We email you a link to our secure online portal, where your imagery, reports and any other agreed outputs are ready to view, download and share with your team or contractors. Alongside the deliverables you’ll find a folder containing the pre-flight paperwork, a copy of the drone airspace map for your site and any other relevant documents, so everything from the survey is in one place.

In The Know
Frequently Asked
Questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often about construction drone photography. If yours is not covered here, give us a call.
What is construction drone photography?
Aerial photography and video of a construction site, captured by drone. It’s used for progress reporting, stakeholder updates, dispute evidence and marketing, and can also produce survey data.
How often can you visit?
As often as you need, from a single visit to weekly or monthly captures, or at key milestones in the build.
Can you fly on a live construction site?
Yes. We plan each flight around the site, its airspace and your programme, complete your site induction and follow your site rules. We hold Constructionline Gold and SSIP accreditations.
Can you provide measurements as well as photos?
Yes. Photogrammetry lets us produce orthomosaics, digital terrain models, 3D models and stockpile volumes from the same visit.
Can you install a time lapse camera?
Yes. We can install a time lapse camera to record your build from start to finish. Find out more about time lapse.
Can the imagery be used in a dispute?
Yes. Dated aerial images taken from consistent viewpoints give a clear record of what was on site and when, which helps with claims, delays and disputes.
Can the data go into BIM?
Yes. Our survey data can be integrated into BIM and other project platforms.
Do I need to be on site?
Someone from the site team will need to induct our pilot and agree the flight plan. After that, we just need safe access to a take-off area.
Can you match the same views on every visit?
Yes. We fly the same positions and heights each time, so progress can be compared like for like.
